went to get a haircut and highlights...I had seen this stylist once before...after she cut and highlighted, she sent me off for someone to wash my hair, THEN she sent me to another to have them blow dry and style. In the meantime she started working on another client, And never came over too see if I liked the highlights (which I had previously mentioned, before she sent me off, that I was worried they were too light) When the lady was done styling my hair I sat there for about a minute to see if my stilist was going to come over. She didn't. So on my way out I walked towards her and she finally stopped what she was doing to ask if I liked it. (I didn't, but wasn't really not the time or place to mention it while she was working on another client) If I hadn't walked over to her she wouldn't have even said anything. I have never had a stylist do this before. How common is this? I would prefer to at least consult w/ my stylist at the end to make sure I'm getting what I'm paying for.Question for Hair dressers? Is what she did unprofessional or common practice?
i agree with sue, it's not unusual for a large salon, but she should've came over after the styling was done and did a final once over, making sure you were satisfied with te color as well as the cut, b/c both of those things look different when wet. i also do a final touch up on clients after dry their hair just to make sure it does what i am wanting it to. i do think it was unprofessional to not make sure you were happy. before i take the cape off my clients the last thing i ask is if it looks good, do they like it, etc.Question for Hair dressers? You DEFINITELY need to let her know you don't like it! There's no reason you should be spending money on a haircut that you don't like, and you really shouldn't tip her after that. The least she could do would be to offer to trim to your liking or give you the cut for free. She should know you're unhappy with it, and if she doesn't try to fix it, she doesn't deserve her tip or your return as a customer.
It is usual for a colourist to let others wash and style your hair if it is a big salon. But there is no excuse for her conduct which seemed uncaring and unprofessional. You should have complained at the time, even if she was with another client you could have asked reception to call her over or ask to speak to the manager. If you had it done recently it isn't too late to go back and say you are not happy with the highlights (or the service) and explain why you didn't say anything at the time. Best of luck.
