Is this the vision people have of gay people on here? That they are all hair dressers, decorators, waiters, et?

Yes, that's it. Some people live in a small world. I'm a scheduler in a factory and yes, I used to work on the floor of factory.

I can assemble the fuel system on Camry in 36 seconds and wire it in less than 40 seconds. Is this the vision people have of gay people on here? That they are all hair dressers, decorators, waiters, et?
No, but, just as stupid as it would be to stereotype that ALL gay people were employed as hair dressers, decorators, etc., on the flip side, it is also stupid not to recognize that there is a higher percentage of gay people that are involved in those professions as there are in the general population.

Again, it is not saying that there are no gays involved in other professions or that gays are not capable of doing other things. It is simply recognizing that artistic and creative abilities are generally higher in gays than the general population. Artistry and creativity simply are not rewarded in certain occupations so why would they want to work in an occupation that doesn't suit their talents?

Is this the vision people have of gay people on here? That they are all hair dressers, decorators, waiters, et?
I totally disagree. I've got friends who are gay and neither of them are hair dressers, decorators or waiters. One of my friends is a lawyer and is very good at his job another a very successful computer technician.

They are still men after all; I hate the way people label others without even knowing them.

x
Of course not - who said that?

Some of my best friends are gay and they are:

a Director of Sales and Marketing

a Catering Manager

an Accountant

a Computer Programmer

a Program Manager for an Educational Foundation

an Event Planner

an Graphic Designer

a Teacher...

Seriously, what's with the stereotypes? And who cares if someone is gay or not?

Oh, and by the way, I am generally conservative, but I don't care what people do in their own bedrooms. That is their business, not mine.
no, but just like a few in any large group of people can stereotype the entire group, flamers in full drag and acting like idiots bring a bad impression to gays in general. i know quite a few gay men and women who are lawyers, doctors, nurses, business people who live their lives quietly and without the theatrics.
Just as all gay people thing alike on all subjects, all straights have exactly the same image of everything. Try not to think that all straights agree on anything and you will find life more pleasant. If you want to know if SOME people think in stereoptypes, then the answer is yes and you are a fool for feeling the need to ask.
gay men also love to dance, go to tanning salons, use stylists instead of barbers, wear skinny jeans, and dress in drag!

Don't forget those stereotypes!

Seriously, the few gay men who are queens are ruining it for the majority who are like former MLB palyer Billy Been or actor Neil Patrick Harris!
80% of the gay people I have become friends with over the years I met while working in a restaurant environment. Stereotypes exist for a reason, not because they are a fallacy. Obviously not ALL gay people are in the service industry but quite a few are.
just cuz ur a decorator or a waiter doesnt mean ur gay. i agree with the hair dresser thing though. but it depends on the guy. i would think hes gay if he wears tight clothes and weird *** hair style that spells GAY on his face. i also think those fashion designer people that are guys that design girl clothes are gay too. i mean, what kind of guy designs girl clothes?
Nope. I refuse to stereotype or pigeonhole anybody into categories I believe in because of some kind of preconceived idea.

I'm a Republican to the core. Believe it or not, most Republicans see people as people, not members of categories.
Gay male here and a teacher of at risk youth. There are many gay people in the social services because I think that we have more sympathy and empathy towards our fellow humans because how we are treated by our fellow humans.
You are correct! Gay people can be found in all the job categories you've listed, including ';et'; which covers about everything.
I think that sterotype is completly untrue. Some people think that based on experience, like if they have seen a gay hairdresser. But it doesnt mean they all are.
I would be willing to bet that many people on here only know of gay people from TV. I'm not saying they don't know gay people, but they don't know too many openly gay people.
I think they're also grandma beating thugs
Thats not tue, the Republicans just had like 3 events where their Senator or Governor had to resign for having sex with Boys in their office and rest rooms.
Yeah pretty much those are the stereotypes! Except for the waiters.
Yes, because these right wing nut jobs cling to their guns, religion and stereotypes.
No some are called sarah and she wears steel toed boots and works in the steel mill
It's a lot worse than that.
Most of the time yes, but that's not always true.
you mean they're not!
