Bring in a picture.

..Or tell them you want them to do the ugliest haircut they have ever done on a teenager. How do you explain to a hair dresser you want an ';emo'; haircut?
The girl in the pic has had her hair thinned and razored, (using special shears). You should take the pic of the cut you want to the salon. It'll look best, (most like the photo) on someone with a similar hair texture/thickness and face/head shape, so keep that in mind. This may effect the time and effort you spend styling it every day.

I'd chose a stylist who has done someones hair I've seen and liked, especially when you're getting an ';emo'; cut, because many stylists may not like or know how to duplicate it. Most stylists give free consultations and usually you'll want to go to a trendier salon, (probably not somewhere like ';supercuts';) unless you have a specific stylist in mind, because it's the luck of the draw and you'll be stuck with the cut for a long time.

Good Luck!
You can always take the picture in, that will help the person better understand the haircut you want. :D

You can tell him/her to thin it out more towards the bottom, and to make it choppier towards the top.

I cut my own hair, though(:

If you can, you should, too. You can get it exactly how you want and your way without the stylist not doing the right cut for you.

Hope I Helped!(:
Just bring that photo in. And if you want to make any changes, then don't be afraid to tell!! But I suggest you cut your own hair..because an emo cut requires a trim every 2 - 4 weeks. I have one and it's starting to grow long so I can't spike it up anymore and I'm getting it cut soon because I'm going to Sydney and they have really good hairdressers there. I'm too scared to cut it myself...my mum usually does it =]

Or just ask a sibling to do it for yah, it usually turns out really creative =]

Bring in a good photo of the exact hair style you want

The onoly reason why it might not look exactly like int he picture is because YOU don't look like the person in the picture

sometimes hairstyles we see on photos are only so perfect because that model can pull it off so well

so yeh...
dont tell her you want an emo haircut....just dont. take the picture. that's the best you can do :
