Cream vs. Clear developer? Hair dressers help?

I have white blonde hair. I recently purchased some extensions online, and they are a slightly darker blonde than my hair color. I want to tone them to a white color, and I'm planning on using Wella White Lady toner. I've never actually used a toner before, I usually just use a purple shampoo/conditioner on my own hair. My question is: Sally Beauty says the toner must be mixed with 20 developer. However they offer both clear and cream, which should I use? Can anyone who's had experience with Wella toner help walk me through this? I'd really REALLY appreciate it!Cream vs. Clear developer? Hair dressers help?
When your toning your hair.. you usually use semi-permanent hair color. If you are mixing peroxide, then you are using permanent color. If the hair is darker, then really the only way to lighten the color is to bleach it. Once hair has been colored, it can ONLY be lightened w/ bleach. Extensions are usually colored. Bleaching can end up in a mess, but I would suggest to do a bleach wash. Mix your bleach w/ 20 volume peroxide (cream- its thicker and easier to manage) and then some shampoo. Make sure its a good consistency.. not too thick or too liquidy. Around the same texture as shampoo. Emulsify this mixture onto the wet extensions until its at your desired color. If it come out a bit warm or yellow, then use a toner to tone out the yellow. Use a semi-permanent color w/ a violet base. Toners usually do not use peroxide.. it usually has a processing lotion of some kind.

Good luck and continue to use the purple shampoo on the extensions as well to prevent brassiness/Cream vs. Clear developer? Hair dressers help?
First off, toner is meant for pre-bleached hair. It won't lighten the extensions. You must bleach them first to get them lighter. Of course, you can TRY the toner first to see if that will work and resort to bleach later. Just use 1/2 of the bottle of toner mixed with the peroxide. Save the other 1/2 for after the bleaching if you must do that. You can also mix the bleach with 20 volume.

There really isn't much difference between cream and clear developers. One is just thicker than the other and will drip less. Since you are coloring extensions which will be laying flat during the process it's up to you. Personally, I would use a creme developer, It just stays put better plus it will work better with the bleach if you must use that. Email me if you have any other questions... good luck!
